Back in 2014, UK DJ and Producer Kryder unveiled Sosumi Records, his new imprint which was all about giving the listening public, game-changing dance music…at no cost. Kryder had a vision of a label that would give producers more freedom to release the tracks that they wanted, without the restrictions by the politics of the industry. Something that worked as a platform for up and coming artists, whilst providing some great music to fans for no cost at all.
For the past four years, Sosumi has enabled fresh new talent to bring their ideas and visions to the masses without limitations. Considered by many as the World’s Number One FREE Dance Label, Sosumi has provided us with so many incredible variations of groovy house music – Tech, Tribal, Latin, Acid, Progressive, Carnival, Groove… all with pumping basslines that really get the shoulders rolling! Kryder‘s weekly radio show podcast has really helped to promote the label and many of the incredible artists featured.
This label has really brought a sense of unity to the industry and many believe that Sosumi has played a huge part in keeping dance music fresh, exciting and alive over the past few years. Kryder and his team have been able to form a real community, with many of the ‘Groove Family’ coming together each week during the live-streamed episodes of Kryteria, to express how they feel about the music and the positive effects it has on their lives.
But like all good things, sadly it must come to an end. Miami Music Week 2018 saw the last ever Sosumi Records Pool Party. This was the perfect event to close off the label and it acted as a real celebration of Sosumi, showcasing so many amazing artists, playing some of the best in groovy house music in the Miami sunshine. This week, The Cube Guys released their new track, ‘Sax Delivery’, which was 100th and final release on the label. In celebration of all things Sosumi, we have compiled a list of our Top 20 releases from Kryder‘s unforgettable imprint. With so many juicy tunes, it was pretty difficult to pick 20 tracks, but we managed to sort a list for you all (we were going to rank them but it’s just not possible!!!).
HUUUUUGE Thank you Kryder and the entire Sosumi Records team for doing so much for the industry. Providing the fans with so much incredible free music, whilst giving hard working producers the support and acknowledgment and love that they deserve .
So… in no particular order, here are 20 of our all-time favorite tracks from Sosumi Records…
DOGS ON ACID – KRYDER
Starting our list off is the Sosumi Boss himself: Kryder. Once again proving his versatility as an artist, the thumping acid-house synths used in this track mimic the ferocious barking of a pack of dogs, with a naughty bassline pulsing throughout. Kryder’s only solo release on the label is a real mainstage MONSTER. Trance legend Armin van Buuren dropped this during his Ultra Miami set and it went OFF!
TAN BUENO – GABRY VENUS X GEORGIA MOS
Gabry Venus and Georgia Mos teaming up to bring us a really epic-sounding track! A nice tribal rhythm builds up to a huge trumpet melody that would be sure to light up any mainstage. This one is definitely ‘Tan Bueno’ (soooooo good)!!
NEVER HIDE – WOLSH
We can’t think of another Sosumi track that gives us more of a dirty, stinkin’ BASS FACE when it drops. Filthy track that makes you want to have a shower after listening to it. Bring that beat back – BAAAAAASS.
TIME – JENIA X MR. STYLES
Big collab here, with real rhythm and groove throughout the track. Really nice, bouncy track that makes you just want to get up and dance as soon as you hear it. Serious Sosumi vibes.
HEARTBEATS – MATT NASH & FELIX LEITER
The track itself begins calmly, but as the vocal, “Your heartbeat’s racing” kicks in with a direct reference to the tempo of the track, the beat comes alive with a thumping kick and accompanying lead which together makes for another peak time weapon. Easy to see why this got so much support from Steve Angello, Kryder and Deniz Koyu.
RUNNER – KANU
This track really is the perfect combination of oriental flavours with mainroom groove, perfect song for building the crowd in the big rooms and the mainstages. The melodic breakdown in the middle followed by a thundering drop that shakes the walls of any structure. Big one!!
DELOREAN – SIMON DE JANO & BOTTAI
Sosumi Records could not have phrased it any better with their own description for this track: “melding both melodic groove and the duo’s signature progressive style. Beautifully built upon massive airy chord progression and big muted drums, we find “Delorean” pushing the envelope with a simple and gritty bass line.” One of the biggest releases of 2014, on any label.
WHERE’S YOUR HEAD AT – ASCO & YAN KINGS
Featuring a familiar vocal hook from the 2001 Basement Jaxx track of the same name, this high impact thumping slice of groove will get everyone moving on the dancefloor. This will always be one of our favourite Sosumi tracks, and we’ll always be dancing when it’s on!
JACKIN’ – HAVOC & LAWN
This track takes you back to the heyday of Jackin’ House Music with it’s chopped vocals, old school drum samples, funky basslines and plenty of short sharp percussion. First time we heard this premiered on Kryteria Radio, we went maaaad.
EL CHANGO – DENNY BERLAND
Italian producer Denny Berland received huge support for this tribal influenced track upon it’s release. Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano instantly made it their AAA track on their Sexy By Nature radio show and it’s easy to see why… THAT BE SOME SEXY FLUTE MELODY! Plus, the music video is just a compilation of butts.. and everybody likes butts. Butts.
ADDICTED – DEAN MASON
With early support from Sosumi boss Kryder, Fedde Le Grand, Benny Benassi and many more, its chopped vocals and thumping house beat and kick drum make this a track to bring solid house beats from the club to the mainstages!
IGNITION – STYLINE
First of all, big shoutout to the LSD-Inspired music video… Secondly…. TUUUUNE. Naughty bassline all throughout this groovy weapon! Powerhouse pioneer Styline created something that will light up any and every dancefloor when it’s played. The groove is strong with this one.
BIG MOMMA’S HOUSE – TOM STAAR & KRYDER
Another massive one from Sosumi boss Kryder, this time teaming up with long-time friend and groove partner Tom Staar. Together, they brought a new dynamic to the classic overly remixed sample of Michael Jackson’s Mama Say Mamakossa. Big drums, shakers for swing, and a carnival-esque lead that moves the blood through the veins. Listen Up…this is how you do house!
THE REALM – MITCHELL NIEMEYER AND PAUL MASON
‘The Realm’ begins with a raw beat until the omnipotent vocal seeks to mesmerise and hypnotise the dancefloor. The beat returns in full force with a climactic groove, another signature piece of music from Sosumi Records.
LA PAZ – HIISAK & DJEREM
With its unmistakeable classic horn riff from Alex Gaudino’s ‘Watch Out’, thumping drums and tribal chants this will be one to get everyone moving on the dancefloor. Another Sosumi track that received huge support from Swedish superstar Steve Angello. One word to describe this song…. DRUMS.
TENPAKU – COREY JAMES & WILL K
The drums are out in full procession for this track until the tribal influenced chant of the breakdown building to another explosion of energy, ready for the dance floors of the world. Another great collab from these two awesome producers!
BRING YOUR BODY – LEANDRO DA SILVA
This track really brings the groove!!! Bring Your Body is one solid slice of house music made to get the crowd moving. With its ‘Bring Your Body Back’ vocal hook and infectious groove this one will definitely get your feet moving. I WANNA TAKE YOOOU DOOWWWNNN!!!
PRESSURE – ROB & JACK
This one really brings back those ‘Axwell Remode Style’ vibes. Feel the track build along with the uplifting vocal asking you if you “Feel The Pressure”. Then once the breakdown comes along the vocals take you to a climatic high ready for the beat to drop and get your feet moving on the dancefloor! A gorgeous progressive release on Sosumi and one of our favourites!!!
LA BANDOLERA – GABRY VENUS
The infectious Balkan trumpets and drums bring plenty of sunshine groove to warm up any dancefloor! A really uplifting melody with this one and we can’t help but smile as we move our feet to the catchy piano lead and smooth-as-butter spanish vocals.
ROCK THE FUNKY BEAT – FRAANKLYN
Championed by the label boss himself, Kryder in his BBC Radio One Essential mix, the track brings a tough old school house groove to the dancefloor and with a classic hip-hop hook you will not be able to stop yourself rock your feet to the Funky Beat! Another example of some of the incredible talent offered by Sosumi!
